101. Well, that's Makoto Shinkai for you. He's pretty much allergic to happy endings. His movies are gorgeous, though. (Anyway, I thought that the guy should have gotten over her and moved on with his life eventually, but I'm probably missing the point myself.)

104. You make it sound like it's a new fandom. The miniseries aired a while ago -- if there were going to be shipwars, wouldn't they have started already?

148. I've never even heard of that book, but man, the clockwork dragon thing on the cover is awesome-looking.

Ya see, the thing about that particular fandom is that everyone there is friends with each other, or at least on personable terms, and everyone is always so polite in the communities. I mean, we have this one batshit person, and we don't even publicly mock her like other fandoms would! We don't have the wank that other fandoms take for granted. Our shipwars are basically, "Well, I see and respect your opinion, but I disagree with it and here is my own," followed by, "Though I am saddened that you do not agree with my theory, I also respect your opinion," which is then followed, usually, by hugs and tea.

Which is all well and good, but sometimes it's funny to see shippers go at it.

148. The book is worth it for the dragons and Rook. Hal and Roy are soppy, like the OP said, but the dragons, for their brief shining moment of awesome made me happy. (And I do mean brief. Chapter or two tops, sadly, devoted to them and their riders. Mostly just focused on the riders.)

Yes yes and YES.

At first I liked Hal and Royston, then ... not so much. The fact that there was chapter after chapter of Hal blushing! and Royston manfully denying himself! and Hal blushing some more! when they could have been talking about dragons blowing shit up really irked me.

It's kind of silly; I don't even like dragons. But (to borrow your phrase) the brief shining moments they got blew my mind. Havemercy slowly going batshit (and Rook's reaction to it) was the saddest thing in the book to me.

OP says WORD. I really did like them at first, but as soon as they started getting all lovey dovey I completely lost interest. It was like they suddenly lost their personalites because they were too busy being ~besotted~ or something.

Amen to the both of you.

Roy's all angry about being exiled, then meets Hal, and forgets his entire reason for hating, it seems. Life's peachy cuz I has my lovemuffin was not the story I was expecting. I like those stories when I'm expecting them, but not in my book that is supposed to be about clockwork magic dragons.

Rook and Thom just got more awesome as the book went on, thankfully. I liked me some Rook.

The dragons were brilliant, absolutely... you'd expect to see way more of them, especially since the book is named after one of them. :(

I know, right? Havemercy is the title, you'd expect to know more about her than she likes singing bar songs and blows shit up in a fantastic way. Although I'd personally like to know more about Thoushalt as well.
