I think season 3 is probably the superior season too. But I just really love Angelus as a character (always preferred him to Angel).

Angelus is a great villain. Angel was a bit of a broody stereotype beloved by teenage girls (I particularly love when he's seen reading Baudelaire). But I love love love Angel on his own series. He really grows as a character, and I love his comedic edge.
