I think the extent to which the Holdo-Poe conflict was driven by sexism was vastly, vastly overstated in fandom. I agree with the point about Poe not being a softboi but so much of the rest of the discussion of that storyline just seems pretty out there. I don't think that reading is very coherent or correct.

I don't think it was driven by sexism as much as an awkwardly deliberate anti-sexist narrative that didn't fully work.

I mean that I don't think the storyline was generally about sexism or gender. I really don't think that it was an attempt at a deliberate anti-sexist narrative in the first place. That's what I'm saying.

I agree. I think there's a dimension for the audience where gender is an issue, but within the story from the perspective of the characters, I don't think it was about sexism. I don't think Poe approached it as "I refuse to follow orders from this WOMAN" (He's fine taking orders from Leia, after all) but rather "I am a hot-head who just wants to blow things up and I disagree with how my superiors appear to be approaching what looks like our imminent deaths."

I'm not sure what meaning feminism would have within the Star Wars universe, anyway - it probably would vary by culture - but I still don't think Poe has ruined himself on that front.

And there certainly wasn't anything to confirm or deny sex positivity. For goodness sake.

(I'm not entirely sure what "softboi" means. Is he gentle? Is he the woobie?)
