i dont understand non-sexual ageplay fics. i dont mean this judgey, i just truly dont get the appeal. are they just de-aging fics by another name? are they wank material for ppl w/ that kink even if there's no sex in the fics proper?

I enjoy sexual and non-sexual. For the non-sexual, age play fic is basically extreme comfort fic because someone is having to take care of someone entirely.

This. There's just something sweet about being able to take care of someone while they show the vulnerable, youthful side of themselves.
