I knew beau contextually because I had a grandmother who would use the word.

For me, I pronounced denouement as "de-no-ment" until last year (and I'm almost 40). Also, macabre was "mack-a-ber" for a long, long time.

Fuckin' French, man.

I wish I could blame French for my embarrassing incorrect pronunciation...but no. Chihuahua. I literally said 'chi-who-a-who-a'. aaaagh, I still cringe!

That reminds me of Les Nessman on WKRP in Cincinnati. He said 'chi-who-a-who-a', to, and also a golfer named Chi Chi (Chee Chee) Rodriguez, he said 'Chi Chi (like chai) Rod-re-gweez'.

I didn't know how to pronounce the name Penelope. I thought it was 'Penny-lope'. AND - i said so aloud in class one day in school, heh.

My dad used to pronounce in mack-a-bray, I think as a joke. I didn't realise...
