(Anonymous) 2018-02-12 01:21 am (UTC)(link)What I'm talking about is people who don't warn for the major ones (noncon, character death, underage) - the ones that AO3 supplies ready made warning tags for. That would be totally fine if the "chose not to warn" tag still functioned as a vague warning unto itself. But so many people use the "chose not to warn" tag to mean "There's nothing to warn for here but I just like to use this tag to keep things unknown." Because of that, if you tag your noncon as "chose not to warn" there's about a 90% chance it's nothing and maybe a 5% chance it's noncon, and the reader just has to guess. It's not the author's fault and I've never suggested it is - it's just not an ideal system.
