I’ve yet to see a humorist of any stripe who really “makes fun of everyone equally.”

(Anonymous) 2018-02-18 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also pretty stupid to imply that's really possible.

my thoughts exactly. The South Park guys were pretty damn wimpy about making fun of Bush, for example.

People are too easily offended. As your secret proves.

The thing is, the stuff OP's talking about isn't even good comedy

Im sorry other people's negative feelings make you uncomfortable. That must be so hard.

Huh?

The issue isn’t whether you’re offended. The issue is what you do in response to being offended. I’m offended all the time, but I choose not to lash out because I don’t think it will be productive.

But it's what all the cool kids are doing!

(Anonymous) 2018-02-18 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree feotakahari. By not responding you are in effect telling the person their behaviour is acceptable. They will be more likely to continue to offend others. You don't need to lash out. Just tell the person they're being offensive. If they continue then that becomes their problem.

*reads secret* Nah.

So I can make fun of how damned ugly you are? As in damn how do you even look in the mirror "people are so easily offended" OP? I bet you're a real charmer :)

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Go for it. You've never seen me and you never will, so you're just going to sound like the crazy person you are :)

(Anonymous) 2018-02-19 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Pointing out that something is offensive =/= being offended. OP isn't throwing a hissy fit about it, so either your reading of the secret is way off base, or you're just trying to start shit.

That seems fine to me.

Liking someone's comedy, but acknowledging that they are sometimes offensive.

You can make fun of yourself and your friends and your family. You can make fun of the systems or the ones in power. You can make fun of stupid decisions or behaviors. But when you make fun of someone else for something that they are bullied or harassed or beaten or even killed because of, it doesn't feel like fun anymore.

The tactic of calling groups of people "easily offended" is a category error. Individuals are more or less easy to offend, sure. But when a whole political group is offended by something you are not - kneeling protests, cartoons of Mohammed, jokes about trans women - you have found a cultural taboo, and anyone who can be offended is offended when their cultural taboos are violated. That is how taboos work.

I thought the special was pretty funny. The one thing that soured it was what he said in regards to the Flint, MI water crisis.
When he first brought it up I was impressed that he was saying something, brining attention to it. Then it turned bad after his "Screw them I'm going to the Oscars!" bit. It made it sound like he didn't really care enough for the cause thus turning attention away from that issue.
