I get you. I'm on Facebook maybe once each three months and have been doing this for years. I'm getting reamed for it regularly, by colleagues, friends and acquaintances, but I can only bear being logged in for an hour tops before I begin to feel harrowed by the intrusiveness and forced feeling of it all.
I love being on anonymous sites, though: fandom sites, games etc., so it's purely the social side of it that bothers me. Especially the aggressive "chain letters", the sad social promotion schemes and the endlessly recycled emotional clichés. My faith in humanity takes a hit each time I go there (but is restored when I see people taking care of each other anonymously, thankfully).
