Not really? At least, not as what I think an anti is. I hate some pairings and characters, but I don't go into those tags to rant about my hate. Hell, I don't really talk about it except on places like here.

What classifies an anti? Does it require throwing death threats? Just being an angry, screaming person on the Internet? Writing out discourse?

I'd say that being an anti involves more than just rolling your eyes and scrolling past posts by people who ship it. Some anti behavior includes:

* Hate-stalking blogs for the purpose of responding to shipping posts.

* Devoting a sideblog to explaining why a ship is bad.

* Excessively posting your disapproval to ship-specific forums and tags.

DA

that's so fucking extra and involved. who has time for that kind of nonsense? Life is too short to waste time hating. Go love the ships you like.

Nah, never been a shipper and always have had a pretty live and let live attitude in general. I've only been in fandom for the past decade but the culture shift has been down right baffling.

Re: Have you ever been an anti?

I have never judged someone for what they ship. At most, I've had some heated arguments with shippers of my NOTP because I was just sick of them always talking about my NOTP but those are usually one-off things that I try to avoid. It's not their fault they're enthusiastic about something I hate. I usually need to take a break and chill when they're getting on my nerves like that so that's what I do.

Not in terms of like, harassing or being obnoxious. But yes in the sense of expressing why I don't like pairings in fandom settings and don't think they are canon. Cloud/Tifa from FFVII comes to mind.

Depends on your definition. Sure there are pairings I hate, but I won't attack or send death threats to people who ship them.

Yes. Back in my early fandom days. The Harry Potter fandom was so messed up back then.

Yeah, it amazes me that people think tumblr invented insane fandom drama. Look no further than the Harry Potter fandom. Although the insanity manifested very differently. I'm SO glad that doxxing wasn't a thing back then, because a lot of already bad wank could've been even worse.

Harry Potter was one of my first fandoms, but I stayed out of that shit. But I did obsessively read/watch the drama play out. It was a lot of fun when I wasn't involved in the drama. I think HP fandom is why nothing bothers or surprises me anymore when it comes to shipping.

I've also just been in fandom for like seventeen years (close to eighteen) so maybe I'm just tired.

Harry/Draco, for a while.

I think some of it was resentment because I felt like people weren't reading my fics because they only wanted to read H/D. I had other reasons for not liking the ship, but feeling left out/ignored played a big part in how strongly I disliked it.

I still don't get H/D, but whatever suits other people.

I've got ships I really don't like but I've never, ever gotten to the point of harassing the people that like them. At most I'll just think petty thoughts to myself if I ever see them and I do my best to block and avoid said ships/characters I don't like.

Plus I'd rather spend my fandom energy on the ships/characters I love because that makes me happy.

Never. If I don't like something I scroll the fuck on by. Life is too goddamned short to waste on being an anti, ffs.

Not in fandom. These days I just don't have time or the blood pressure to do it.

No. I'd rather avoid things that I hate and seek out things that I like. At the most, I'll silently judge people as I scroll past.

not that I know of, but way back in the day I had no problem telling like-minded YGO fans that I thought Joey and Kaiba would absolutely never fuck and you can't logic me that ship.

like-minded being the point here. never told someone to their face not to ship a thing.

Anti behavior? hellllll no I've been against that since I saw it becoming a thing.

Funnily enough I was accused of being one after making a post about how a ship being canon doesn't mean anyone has to like it , but that's after seeing a few diehard shippers in the fandom imply that the ship being canon at the end means you need to ship it or you're being disloyal to the creator or something. (the DP fandom still has a thing about fans bizarrly obsessive about loyalty to the creator 9.9) I made a post about how people will still see issues about the ship and it doesn't mean they're doing fandom 'wrong' or whatever.

Got harassed by some chick who believes that the only reason people could hate the ship is that they're jealous of the female half of it.

Re: Have you ever been an anti?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
No. There's a few pairings I don't personally care for, but I leave it at that. I don't care if other people ship them or write about them or whatever. And if a pairing I don't like is canon, yeah, it sucks, but in that case I just turn to fanfic instead. I have no interest in harassing people over stuff they like.

Re: Have you ever been an anti?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-20 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. I mean, I have my NOTPs but I don't go out of my way to harass anyone over them. I'd much rather write fic of the sin ship that I love, which probably annoys the fandom because I've been cranking out so much of it. (It's an incest ship.) I work best off of spite.

When I was, like, 13 and the internet was in the darkages. I had a hate-site for Relena Peacecraft on homestead that I spent ages and ages and ages coding.

I don't even remember why I hated her any more? I like her a lot these days.

Their are ships and characters I dislike, even massively dislike. But I don't care if people like the ships or the characters. As long as no one tries to make me like something I don't like then I don't care. I have zero energy to behave like an anti. It's too much work to go into the tags and pick a fight you're going to lose anyway. Why bother.
