I find this statement hillarious. You're only looking in western mainstream rubbish like Marvel's crap called Civil War. DC'S "Vertigo" line is a perfect example of doing it right. Take a look at their "Lucifer" series, or even better, Y: The Last Man which has a lovely overarching plot in 10 volumes and each volume stands alone as it's own storyline.

Well, considering you only seem to be looking at the animanga examples that hold up your point, while ignoring the plethora of examples that contradict it... :<

Hit the nail on the head liebeling ♥

And honestly? Chobits? Tokyo Babylon? Cowboy Bebop? Paradise Kiss? These aren't like obscure titles. (Granted as far as I know Y the last man isn't either) I can think of more SHORT stories then long ones (And that's not even getting into animes)

Dude, did you just MISS the point of what I said? I'm not saying western comics DON'T do it. I'm saying both sides have both kinds. Period.

Western has long rambling plot lines that never wrap up, Eastern has short, concise story lines. And vice versa. (And ironically, while you DO have have to look past the mainstream "crap" of American comics to find the nice short ones, you really don't have to with Japanese if you have a 5 second attention span) A lot of the short stuff is the main stream stuff.

In fact I tend to prefer Japanese comics just because you know they WILL end, they are finite, and if you pick up a new series it may not still be running when you're 80, and you'll have the same artist/writer generally throug out, so you know that the end you get is the one imagined from the beginning, and not the ending some noob came in in the middle and decided. And although you can find plenty of American comics like that it's NOT the norm.
