It's a bit annoying that people can't dislike or like TLJ without drama.

It is frustrating, for sure

So true. I also get annoyed with people who think everyone who's a Star Wars fan is in the fandom. Or anyone who thinks one fraction of the fandom is the whole fandom, be it tumblr or Reddit or twitter or whatever.

This. As far as I'm concerned, the people claiming their opinion is objective fact are ruining for everyone. People on both sides of the argument. It wasn't objectively good or bad. It was a movie. Some people liked it. Some people didn't. Let people discuss it, and don't ruin it for people who want to talk about their opinions on the movie one way or the other.

100%, OP

Alright

I haven't seen any of the new movies and I'm probably not going to. I like the Original Trilogy and a couple of Zahn books and I'm good with that (I watched the prequel trilogy and I'm fine with mostly ignoring it's existence). I think picking and choosing what you like and what you want to see is part of the experience of any fandom with a huge amount of canon (and authorized, but not-really-canon) media.

I 100% agree. You gotta choose what you do and don't want to care about, and that's totally fine.

Nothing wrong with that. I only get annoyed when people are talking of opinion as objective fact and telling other people their opinions on a fandom thing is wrong.

And also when people target the creators in real life.

Yup. I pretty much ignore the prequel stuff and other than Rogue One, have not liked any of the new stuff (and haven't seen TLJ) enough to re-watch or follow fandom anything. Which is too bad, 'cause i have read a couple really neat fics, but....

Eh.

Sometimes, you're just done with stuff.

I get you. I walked into TLJ with no wants ir expectation other than I be entertained for the next two hours, and I walked out feeling meh about it.

I'm not in the fandom and I mostly keep my mouth shut because I don't want to be caught in the undertow of someone's shipping wank or ruined childhood.
