What is something new you've done recently?

Going to do it again?

Appear in court as a lawyer. First time I have. I don't think I'll be that giddy every time. All I was doing was asking for more time on behalf of another attorney. But I loved it and I can't wait until I can do it again.

Congratulations! I hope to be that stoked about work one day (though in my case, that would require a career change, lol).

I'm very aware that I'm very lucky to have found something I'm good at that I also believe in and feel great about doing. I know most people don't have that opportunity. Don't know if I'll be this in love with it forever. But I've always wanted to help people and make a difference ever since I was a little kid, and I feel like I'm finally getting the chance to do that.

I actually used a drive through today instead of going into a restaurant (was always worried I'd just run into the building or a car in front of me). I'll be doing it again. :P

Tomorrow I am going to drive in the ice for the first time. Worried about that!

That's always fun.

1) Turn into the skid
2) Pump the brakes
3) Other people are your worst enemies, especially those assholes in trucks with 4 wheel drive who think that makes them invincible
4) Your other worst enemy is bridges - the highway might seem dry and clear and amazing, but the bridges will stay an ice rink.

Turn into the skid

That means turn the wheel the way you are sliding, right?

Most cars are front-wheel drive, so it's usually the back wheels that are skidding. You turn the steering wheel where your back wheels are going. So if the back of your car swings right, you're pulling the steering wheel right.

To expand on bur's advice, if you have anti-lock brakes, the advice is NOT to pump the brakes. Just apply steady pressure and the brakes pulse -
basically pumping for you, which is what they're supposed to do under these conditions. But chances are if you drive slowly, maintain several car lengths distance from the vehicle ahead and take curves gently, you'll be fine.

I've gotten into succulents! I've had a cactus for over 15 years, and for a while new we've had two succulents that teeeechnically belong to my sister but she left them here so I'm going to treat them right and not neglect and overwater and underlight them anymore. Learned recently one is an Aeonium haworthii, and the other is 90% some kind of Delosperma, an ice plant. Won't know what kind until it flowers. I repotted them in nice fresh cactus soil with extra perlite. And while I was getting soil, I got a new Crassula ovata (classic baby jade tree), and found a leaf of a pink sempervivum on the floor that was already making its little rosette/roots. So the prop is getting extra care and away from cats.

Rent a movie. Well, it's not necessarily 'new', but the last time I did this was in maybe 2010.

I normally just pirate or watch in the theater. Dang, it would have been like 9$ if I didn't have a 99c coupon code with Google, no wonder I don't take the legal path.

The last time I rented a movie was maybe 2006 and yeah, I remember being shocked by the price (although I don't remember what is was). Fortunately, all the libraries in the city I'd just moved to had movies, so I could just get stuff for free from the library.

The last time before that was maybe 2002, and it was about $4-5, which was a big jump from the ~$1.50 I'd been paying at Tower Records shortly before that, but that TR location moved and ditched their video rental section. The closest library to me back then didn't have movies.

At back then you could at least keep it for more than two days. Now it's like "You have thirty days to start it, and when you do, you have forty eight hours to finish." like jeeze.

I went to the beach with my qt3.14! We splashed around in the ocean a little bit (which I've done before) but the water was still hella cold even though it was hot af so we mostly just sat around and had a picnic, and then we built a sandcastle. Which, I've never built a sandcastle before and it was pretty cool. 10/10 would recommend, would do again. But next time I'd bring some better tools for the job like those little castle mold things and buckets and stuff.
