How do you mean “insane restrictions?” You mean that schools can’t put on productions or concert versions? Because that’s totally normal. One of my favorite shows didn’t release the rights for schools for over 20 years, they’re still expensive and otherwise not easy to get, and community and regional theatre productions still aren’t allowed. The film version took 18 years and sucked balls. And you can’t perform songs for profit without paying licensing fees, much like you can’t screen a movie to the public for profit (or even sometimes for free) without the copyright holders getting their cut.
