Depends on how you define action I think. I'd call the Marvel movies my favorite action movies because I think they are fantasy/action movies. Because I think that the action is kind of a big part of the point of them (I wouldn't say the same of things like Star Wars or LOTR).

Mad Max: Fury Road because it is just two hours of EXCITING CAR DRIVING MAYHEM!

Action movies are great because they usually let you shut off your brain and just enjoy the ride.

The first one - the 1989 Hong Kong one with John Woo and Chow Yun Fat. I wasn't even aware of the existence of the other one.

Aliens - best action-horror, interesting characters, scary foes, lots of tension build-up, lots of fighting and running and explosions

The Fast and the Furious - car chases, over-the-top action sequences, stupid fun, everything and action film that's not really trying to be anything else should be

The Bourne Identity - action-intrigue, smart characters, twisty plot, interesting fights

Speed - explosions, non-stop action, barely held together plot, and so, so watchable

Superman (1978) - superhero action on a serious scale, flying, nuclear weapons, turning back time

The Goonies - kid action, weird, fantastical, and fun

The Terminator - sci-fi action, robot and man from the future, chases, shooting, catchphrase, destruction, heart-pounding action

Raiders of the Lost Ark, which involved a lot of Spielberg storyboarding cool shit and giving it to the stunt coordinator to figure out (and amazingly, the stunt coordinator did manager to figure it out).
