Thats such a tiny danglijg thread, though

GoT has lots of dangling threads and lots of people who are interested in them.

But. like. as written, is there anything that's interesting about Tysha as a character in herself, rather than based on her importance to Tyrion?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-24 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Does it matter? OP's curious about what happens to a minor character. That seems pretty typical, in fandom.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-24 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
There's nothing wrong with it, I guess I just don't understand why. Like, I don't see what answer to that question could be meaningful, except insofar as it had ramifications for Tyrion, is my point.

But, you know, that's just me, god bless all the people in fandom caring about minor characters, it's great and I love it, and I don't want to seem like I'm mad at it. Just don't quite see it personally in this specific case.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-24 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe OP hopes that finding out more detail would make Tysha a more interesting, well rounded character in her own right?

(Anonymous) 2018-02-24 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
She only had a throwaway mention in the show, though. I don't think she's going to be mentioned again. They didn't follow it up with the reveal upon Tywin's death, nor the 'where do whores go' thing.

Maybe in the books. Maybe.

Me too. tbh, a lot of those smaller threads are more interesting for me than the main arc. I can't totally get that people hate Tyrion for what happened with Tysha and his attitude since. But I really am curious as to what happened to her.

Honestly, there are so many minor characters I'd like to know more about in this universe that I can't keep track of them all! But Tysha is one of them for sure.

There's a theory that Penny the dwarf entertainer is Tyrion and Tysha's daughter (conceived before her gang rape). Which would mean Tysha went to Oldtown, and had two children, Oppo and Penny. The Lannisters are known to have genes for both dwarfism and twins. Yes, Tyrion estimates Penny's age at 17-18, but he is established to be bad at guessing ages (he got Sansa's quite wrong) and Penny acts much more immature than that. She could be 13-ish, aligning with Tysha's marriage. And Penny says her mother is normal-sized. The only flaw is what Penny says of Hop-Bean, a dwarf mummer she says was her father. Did Tysha meet him and, having children with dwarfism, form a relationship with Hop-Bean for advice and security for her young children? Later the family went to the Free Cities; O&P often travelled back and forth between Essos and Westeros.

Several other factors are similar: both women had dark brown hair, Penny's mother sang to her, as Tysha did for Tyrion, both Penny and Tyrion are described as having a squashed-in face and heavy brown (which, admittedly, is a trait shared among many with dwarfism, but no other dwarf character in ASOIAF is described that way), and the names Penny and Groat (Oppo's stage name) are the smallest coins- the Lannisters are associated with wealth and Tyrion later became Master of Coin. Penny has curly hair, as does book!Cersei and Myrcella and I think Joffrey.

Oppo was murdered by bounty hunters hunting Tyrion. As his son, there would be more resemblance than the other dwarves beheaded and taken to Cersei.

The connection I turned up that I don't know if anyone else has in the "Dwarf's Penny" theorizing is that Oppo rode a pig in their jousting act; Penny rides a dog. Tyrion later rides the pig while they're slaves. Tyrion and Tysha's wedding was witnessed only by the drunken septon.... and a stable full of pigs. Clever writing to draw the connection between the two.

The Sailor's Wife, the courtesan in Braavos who "marries" her clients and has a blonde teenage daughter named Lanna is a red herring. She is the wife/lover of Gerion Lannister, Tywin's youngest brother and Tyrion's favorite uncle, making Lanna Tyrion's first cousin. Gerion was a sailor and is known to be lost at sea.

I want him to find her, see that she's happy (as in, whatever makes her happy - married with children, having her own shop or whatever) and turn around without ever speaking to her again.
