Are you judging this based just on his performance as Ed, or have you seen more of what he's done? It's fine if you just don't think he can do it, but there's more to all these actors than just the one or two popular roles people are familiar with.

I have to admit, I'm nervous about him being able to do it, too, but I had heard rumors long before the cast was announced that he was Tamaki, so I'd already been mentally preparing for it. XD;; I think he has the ability to pull off Tamaki--very very different from the original seiyuu, but I still think he has the potential to do well. I'm remaining....cautiously optimistic.

I don't think any American voice actor can or should do a close approximation of the original seiyuu--he's too unique and too...well, good. Any actor who was going to be Tamaki, Vic or otherwise, was going to have to be very different. I'm...hoping Vic can do it. He's the wild card. I genuinely wish him good luck with it, in any case. And at least the sub has such a great cast that it's not a tragedy if the dub isn't done well.

I have listened to MANY of his voices side-by-side and he has a very distinctive voice that isn't really an anime voice. For example, Steve Blum's voices are VERY similar but they just fit a lot of characters. I mean, I can ALWAYS tell it's Vic and basing what Tamaki will most likely sound like on his Ed performance is actually pretty accurate. xD

VAs like Brad Swaile, Chris Patton or, hell, even Quiton Flynn would sound more like an English Tamaki than Vic would.

It's a shame that Chris doesn't work with Funi anymore--he would've been a good Tamaki. Except I don't think he could handle the spazzy side of Tamaki nearly as well as Vic, honestly. (Although he CAN do spazzy, he pulled it off well in NHK, but that character's a little different, too.) But...I dunno, I'm not worried about the sound of the voice as much as I am the acting. As long as he doesn't do a REALLY raspy voice for Tamaki, what I'm really looking for is someone that can handle Tamaki's quiet side, flirty side, and spazzy side, which I think Vic can do. I can think of actors that can do one or the other, but I can't think of very many that can do both...so I remain optimistic.
