The first 4 Doctors were huge flirts. Even Six flirted. Sure, there was no onscreen kissing, but aside from the Fifth Doctor (who was specifically told not to touch his female companions but STILL managed to be a flirt and has stated he played the character as if he and Nyssa had something going on the side) the Doctor has always been sexual. I can definitely do without the ridiculous, romance novel angsty bullshit that RTD brought to the series, but the Doctor has never been an asexual character.

Yeah, I can see your point. The Doctor isn't asexual. Flirting is one thing. The ridiculous, romance novel angsty bullshit is another.

Actually, I think I heard a rumour that the Doctor and Jamie were playing it that way too. Very very subtlely. But in what I've seen...wow.

I actually liked the ridiculous romance novel, but I prefered it so much more when things were unsaid or just hinted at. And angst+Doctor relationtions should never even be a glimmer (yeesh, how long did it take for that to get old, Martha? Two episodes? Maybe.)

But word to the Doctor never really being asexual. He's a very romantic figure (in the literary sense).

IAWTC. Davison had chemistry with all of Five's companions and Tom Baker flirted with everything in the room. And Pertwee's Doctor obviously liked being looked at, even if he wasn't into the touching. I *never* saw the Doctor as asexual, back in the day or otherwise, and I don't understand where any of the fans got that idea. The only one I can see as particularly asexual is Seven, and I'm not even sure about him.

Now, Ten is the first Doctor who's actually ever grappled with his commitment issues, and I am so tired of the angst about that I could scream . . . .
