114. Man, I'm so tired of the anime secrets! Seriously, can't there just be an anime!secrets thing or something? I mean, I never watch the stuff. Why should I have to deal with all these anime secrets on f!s when it's something I don't personally like.

SHOCK--F!S is not geared toward you alone!

126. Would it be weird to say that's what I love about him? It's so endearing when an actor (or writer or whatever) loves what they do because it actually means something to them. While I love Eccleston's Doctor so much, it's a bit disheartening to hear that in general, he doesn't really care about Doctor Who (granted, that aloofness was very good for the sort of role he did). At any rate, the old school references come from other fanboys and fangirls writing it. I just find it heartwarming.

I also can't help but hear Six--"I am the Doctor--whether you like it...or not."

127. As did the comicbook The Invisibles, if I remember correctly.

128. Oh for crying out loud, I am dead tired of this. Especially because it's always aimed specifically at "this Rose/Doctor love crap." None of the other love crap, then, eh? None of the Jamie or Peri or Romana or Teagan or River or Evelyn or...
At any rate, even if it is a "I hate all romance in Doctor Who" I find it a weak, "ew, guys, look!" reasoning anyway.

129. Yes, yes it is. Which is another reason we should never have
a special f!s of our own--it would rip the internets apart. I kind of miss enjoying it in a vaccuum. Honestly, I love finding friends that like it, but the suddenly, they're spewing all this vitriol at one character or another to a point where the sheer ugliness of their hatred terrifies and disgusts me...and it just makes fandom such a less pleasant place than it should be. I keep saying it, but honestly, I think to Doctor would be ashamed of us.

133. Old story, no less tragic. I do heart that pic, though, even if it has he-who-shall-not-be-named in it.

136. Is that Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em or whatever it was called? With Michael Crawford? Never saw it, but I want to so bad! I just can't find it!
(Who on earth wouldn't hit a young Michael Crawford? I refer the audience to exhibit A: Hello Dolly, followed by Exhibit B: The Phantom with the best psychotic chuckle/laughter ever.

138. Oh wow, I'm glad you're on hand to tell me what movies are GOOD. Or specifically, which ones aren't. I loved Moulin Rouge and Finding Neverland, and I loved them for reasons other than my ovaries, thank you very much (especially the latter). It doesn't mean you have "actual taste" because you dislike these movies. You deserve to be "ronery" in your opinions! Not because you dislike them--to each their own--but because of your disgusting arrogance about how it makes you a better person for disliking them. Get the heck over yourself.

139. Oh come on, who wouldn't? He's Sam! I mean, I'm a Pippin girl, myself, and outside of LotR, Dom's the hottie to me, but Sam...especially Astin's Sam...whoof, that's one sexy-fine halfling!

153. I can't help but think it would be better if Pyro were less of a boring, kinda ugly tool, and more like he is in the comics (arrogant, sympathetic, and former romance novel writer) or in X-men Evolution(hot and completely psychotic). Oh, and both of those are Aussies. Double the sexy!

160. Awww, bless. Sweet secret is sweet!

I geared it towards Rose because that's what's been shoved into my face the most. I think as far as RTD goes, subtlety and subtext is underrated.

Exactly.

Not to mention the way Rose was written, I think she would be too shallow to fall for, say, the First Doctor, or Six. Could you imagine her reaction if she ran into the Second Doctor while she was recklessly and selfishly trying to find her alien boyfriend?

IAWTC.

Bring on Moffat, maybe he can write something that doesn't SMACK YOU IN THE FACE with its obviousness.
Subtlety, RTD. It exists.

I have nothing against Rose as a character or even against Rose/Doctor as a pairing. It's just RTD's wrting that shoves stuff in your face until you're sick of it, even when you actually liked it before

And I'm not sure about River Song yet, so I'm not going to say anything about her that I'll regret in the future.

At least the anime secrets are not all about one show. I don't watch a lot of live action shows but I don't mind secrets about them. But it can be damn annoying when 90% of all live action show secrets (or hell, secrets in general) are about one particular series (that I also happen to hate).

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Wah for you. I, too, go through days when I scroll through and don't see one secret I actually care about. Oh man, the horror! (And honestly, all the anime blends together for me anyway.)
Still, there are weeks when there's maybe one DW secret at all.

And as I recall, there was a time when there was an absolute glut of Death Note secrets. Nevermind the fact that every now and again, we get oodles of Heroes secrets, and I'm sure once Lost starts up again, we'll get loads of those as well.

Since you hate it, you don't care, but Doctor Who just had a nice, epic, three-part-finale, so emotions are running high in the community. Poor you.

The show constantly pimping and propping up said character and romance + an overly defensive, vocal fanbase for that particular ship = More attention paid to Rose/Doctor.

Anyway, I must have misinterpreted the secret, I thought it was sort of a comment on the shallowness Rose exhibited during the fake regeneration scene. For all the shippers claiming they ship Rose with any and all Doctors, it seems Rose and the writers don't.

I didn't really think it was shallowness at all. The Doctor changes when he regenerates. Yes, he's still essencially the same person, but he changes dramatically in personality as well as looks, and it must be a really rough thing to deal with from either side. It's an adjustment, it's abrupt, and it takes time. If the Doctor had already been regenerated by the time she found him, I think she would've adjusted fairly quickly. But seeing him, and then seeing him freaking get shot before they even say hello...I think it's safe to say that's a wee bit stressfull.

Honestly, I'm tired of everyone casting incredibly human reactions of Rose's into the most negative light possible.

I kind of like seeing fic where Rose interacts with Five or Six (especially Six; it's a thing of beauty. Now Six and Donna...that would be even moreso...), but I don't see why it has to be Rose with every version of the Doctor who came before. As someone pointed out, if you meet someone and fall in love with them when they're thirty, it doesn't mean you would've when they were twenty.

Again, I see the "casting Rose's reactions in a negative light" as another reaction to the show telling the audience how GREAT Rose is. Compound that with her rabid fans telling everyone how human and great she is (while in the same breath slagging off other characters for having a very human crush, but that's a whole other topic), and you're bound to get some fatigue. I'm not saying it's fair, but it's understandable IMO.

As for me, I honestly did find the character bratty and immature during the last two episodes. I wanted to like her like I did during season 1 and most of season 2, but I found her actions not very endearing.

Back on topic...

As someone pointed out, if you meet someone and fall in love with them when they're thirty, it doesn't mean you would've when they were twenty.

That's true.

It's not about how GREAT Rose is, it's about how horrible she isn't. Rose isn't OMGtehbestestevah! But she's not this horrible cow that everyone seems to think. Honestly, I'm confused by the people who love Martha, but then gripe about Rose being romantic with the Doctor (I'm not a fan of Martha for reasons mostly unrelated to the crush. The crush wasn't her fault, it was the writers, but it got tiresome).

The only time I see fans talking about her being great and human is in a defensive reaction to people saying that she's the worst piece of garbage ever to appear on the show. We certainly don't sit around and swap stories of Rose being amazing (or at least, no more than we do about the Doctor, Donna, Martha, Sarah Jane, Jamie, etc...)
