126: Even though admittedly the Ninth Doctor is my favourite, I think David Tennant does a great job with the Tenth Doctor. He gets some really dramatic moments which he handles well (oh, and he's FANTASTIC in Human Nature/Family of Blood). I think the reason he sometimes comes off a bit fanboy-ish is (well, he is one) that he's quite a bit younger than most of the previous Doctors and he acts it.

128: I agree... sort of. But I think that the Ninth Doctor was the one she fell in love with and who fell in love with her based on things that happened to him. It's just like any relationship - you might fall in love with a person when they're 30 but if you went back ten years, you might not love them at all when they're twenty. So you don't have to 'ship every single incarnation (especially since he had different personalities) although it's likely that all of them would work considering he's the same man.

129: DAMN FUCKING STRAIGHT. If you don't stick purely within the comms that have the same opinion as you you're bound to run into a lot of hate and it's unpleasant. Personally I HATE fights and confrontations so it definitely bothers me. I feel like if you're a Rose fan or a 'shipper then you're not really welcome anywhere else which is stupid because it DOESN'T make a person just a fanbrat as we're often labelled. And if you like River Song, I'm sure very few people would want anything to do with you. Same thing with people who liked Journey's End and people who didn't - they won't get along and it will be bitter. HEY, GUYS, WE ALL LOVE THE SAME SHOW.

132: Personally both endings made me very sad but I think Donna's is far, far more tragic. (Also, I think that Blue!Doctor is SO, SO, SO, SO not a cop out. I don't want to get into a rant, but, seriously, what other solution was there? It was the only way to give Rose a happy ending.)

165: There's nothing wrong with this. I remember when it was the best thing on TV (s1) and watching it was one of the highlights of my week.

Well, actually the only pairing I ship at all is Doctor/TARDIS. In my mind, that's the only ship that really matters in the Doctor's life.

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
You know what? That's also my favourite 'ship. I've always said the TARDIS is my favourite character and it's totally true. So yeah, high five for Doctor/TARDIS. (Like, I love DOnna VERY MUCH, but when Davros was going to destroy them both, I was far more upset about the TARDIS.)

[identity profile] kirarakim.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
132) And they needed to give Rose a happy ending because? They certainly didn't give Donna a happy ending!

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I don't think they did. But I figure the people who actually CARED about Rose getting a happy ending would be the ones thinking deeply about whether it was a cop-out or not, so the comment was directed at them. From the point of view of someone who cares about Rose, I thought hard about the ending and came to a decision that it was a happy one. I don't suppose anyone else not interested in Rose's fate would really care or think too much about it. Not to say they can't, of course. (Um, I hope what I said makes sense.)

I think what they did to Donna was inexcusable, to be honest. I don't know if I'll be able to enjoy rewatching the fourth season because of that. Some very odd choices were made regarding this finale and I don't know if they can ever really be reconciled.

YOUR MASTER ICON MAKES ME HAPPY.

[identity profile] kirarakim.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Fair enough about the Rose thing. I liked her as a companion but I admit I wasn't big on the Rose/Doctor thing.

As for Donna I agree!

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
128. Agreed emphatically. Though honestly, I'd love to see how Rose would get along with Six (and if the air itself would just ignite from the friction).

129. ILU. Funny thing, there is so much hatred and outright hostility towards Rosefen and shippers...but honestly, I don't recall any tales of us behaving badly, aside from having the audicity to like a blatant romantic ship in the show. I mean, I'm sure there've been a few fans yelling "Doctor/Rose 4evah!!!!1!!!1!!!11" in main messageboards without having the slightest clue about the series itself, but that can hardly be a majority, and doesn't make it different from any other fandom.
So tired of the hate. It's just ugly.

132. I agree that Blue!Doctor pretty much is the only solution; my problem is that it's not really a solution for the Doctor, and it was him I wanted to see happy (granted, seeing him "happy" in the show would change the dynamic and make it kind of awful). He's a bit of a cop-out, and more than a bit creepy, but it's a good enough ending.
Donna's leaving had me furious those. It's just not right.

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
128: Oh yeah, that would be great. I think a lot of them wouldn't know what to do with her.

129: Exactly. It doesn't make sense to dislike people who 'ship something based on the perception that it's the "easy" think to 'ship. So? We're bad people for liking something that is WRITTEN TO BE LIKED? And I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone saying, "The Doctor loves Rose more than he's ever loved anyone in the entire 900 years of his existence." It's never that simple and, seriously, they do have a beautiful relationship. You only have to read some of the really good quality fanfiction that's been written to see that there are countless mature people 'shipping them.

132: Oh yeah, it's tough on the Doctor, for sure. But I think that in the new series they're actively trying to make him lonely and unhappy so there's not much that can be done about that. But I think he managed to be happy after Rose was gone the first time so he can be again. Donna's ending? There's no excuse and nothing to sweeten that. They went too far and it hurts my heart.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
132: (Also, I think that Blue!Doctor is SO, SO, SO, SO not a cop out. I don't want to get into a rant, but, seriously, what other solution was there? It was the only way to give Rose a happy ending.)

How about, have her grow the hell up and deal with shit on her own?

[identity profile] xanya.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but regardless of whether you agree with it or not (or even like her), she is in love with the Doctor. What's wrong with someone trying to find the person she loves? I honestly do not see how what she has done consitutes a lack of growing up. As far as I can tell, she helped save the universe in Turn Left. All without the Doctor's help. So I don't see the problem here.

[identity profile] lovedforaday.livejournal.com 2008-07-13 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Love is all well and good, but how about getting over herself and growing up a little? And why couldn't Rose make her own happy ending? I guess it was all about appeasing a fanbase.
