Ugh, this is so irritating that it still makes me mad and I've never gone back to the restaurant even though the food was all right. A new fusion Chinese/Japanese place opened up in my hometown and I decided to try it with some friends. We ordered a few sushi rolls as an appetizer. Or more accurately, *I* ordered them, because I was the only one who was familiar with sushi.
When the food arrived, instead of XY, we got an Y roll. I flagged down the waiter and explained the error, expecting him to apologize and bring the right roll. Mix-ups happen, it's no big deal, but the fault wasn't mine. Instead, he INSISTED that this is what I'd ordered. I fucking knew it wasn't, but I wasn't rude about it, just shook my head and smiled and said no, we'd definitely ordered XY. He KEPT INSISTING we'd ordered Y, even after I grabbed a blank sushi menu and pointed out that there wasn't even an option for Y roll, only XY roll, so how could I have ordered a Y roll?
Nope, he kept talking louder and louder claiming that *I* had messed up somehow and I eventually gave up. I didn't stiff him on the tip (though he only got 20% instead of the 25%+ I usually give) or complain to the manager, but to this day I think jesus, what an asshole.
