What about cases where twins run in the family

*coughstarwarscough*

Not OP but somehow that's even worse to me. Because then it's like they tried to justify it to head off the eyerolls, instead of just owning it and letting it be the standard fluffy twist to the standard fluffy wish fulfillment happy ending.

twins actually run in my family

women can be genetically predisposed to releasing eggs from both ovaries instead of just one more often

all three of my mother's sisters had a set of twins and one of them had two sets, my mom probably would have as well if she didn't have a uterine malformation

...that said, this trope kind of bugs me too. it feels like the twins are an attempt to have a Perfect Set or mimic their parents instead of being their own future people

I'm well aware that it's possible, I just think that 99.99% of the time it's a plot contrivance.

I have the same sentiments too sometimes.

Its a fictional story - literally the entire thing is a plot contrivance.

(Anonymous) 2018-02-28 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
... which doesn't mean that there's no such thing as unrealistic plots, or plots that stretch credibility to the point where readers stop enjoying the work.

Yeeep. It runs in my mom's family and it's one of the many, many reasons I don't want children. I wouldn't want one. Two at a time would be a goddamn nightmare. (My brother and sister are twins, even! And that was a hellish nightmare growing up.)

I feel really specifically called out by this hahaha

Ah well, you can't please everyone. I love my kids. ♥

As long as you're not fictional, you're okay!

(Anonymous) 2018-02-28 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
THE TWINS I GAVE MY OTP I MEAN.

So definitely fictional. Hahaha!

(Anonymous) 2018-02-28 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure you're only joking, but the whole point is that the birth of twins thing is so cliché because so many people do it, not just you.

You're more patient than I am. I HATE the "now we're knocked up and it's happily ever after!" save it for the epilogue so I can skip it easily. GAG.

I kind of agree. While I know twins often run in families, at the same time, it seems kind of ridiculous that every fictional woman is that fertile. Give us a few singletons, please. Also, it'd be nice if when it comes to singletons, can we get some more sons? Fanfics seem to drown us in daughters. I don't hate girls (I am one, so it'd be kind of foolish for me to do so), but again, variety is always nice.
