Ah. So she is your average teenager.

I remember the slut-shaming and general meanness towards the girl who "stole" your crush was pretty common in books when I was younger. Oh, and in real life too. I'm not proud of it, but I did have that same line of thinking when I was in high school (and I've thankfully grown out of it). The song's kinda cringe-worthy now, but I still like it and sing along to it whenever it comes on the radio.

The lead singer has even said she doesn't like how immature/catty the song was, right? And tbf - I liked it when I was younger too, but young people ARE immature by definition, so I don't feel much shame for liking an immature song when I myself was immature.

That said I love the beat of this song to this day.

Looked up the lyrics on "genius," and they had some stuff about the singer's thoughts: apparently she second-guessed the "whore" line and thought it was wrong to call someone that, but someone told her to leave it in. She also said she wrote the song as a teenager, and didn't relate to it as an adult.

OT, but they did the "mean girl" dirty in the video with that hair. Poor thing.
