I love how a picture of sand is so widely understood.

Explain it to me please. Is this a Star Wars thing?

In this specific case, it's a comment on a secret from last week that was widely interpreted and discussed as being about Star Wars

I just assumed after seeing that particular photo twice that it’s universal shorthand for Reylo-drama.

No, it was just the secret was really obviously about Reylo.

Also, sand dunes are relevant to Rey in that Jakku is a desert planet, but it would still be pretty ambiguous if it weren't for the context.

DA

I associated the sand in last week's secret for Jakku/ Reylo shenanigans, but for some reason, after reading "Harmonian Ship wars" and see the desert, I thought that might have been something that went down in Dune (never got too far in that book) before realizing OP meant Harry Potter.

There are several desert worlds in Star Wars. Anakin and Luke are both from Tatooine and Rey is from Jakku. Also, Anakin has a cringeworthy line in the prequels about hating sand (it's course and irritating and gets everywhere!) that has become a bit of a meme.

I don't know if this is still canon, but George Lucas said the majority of planets in SW were desert worlds.
