I always had more time in college for fandom, too, and I'm not sure how, I had a full course load, worked about 10 hours a week at a part-time job, and had a far more active social life than I do now. I think part of it was that I lived in a small dorm room and ate in the dining hall, so I spent far less time on chores and errands, and while my commute to work isn't particularly long, it's still longer than my old walk across campus to class. Plus, I had not space for hobbies and the dorms didn't allow cable, but they did have ethernet, so a lot of time that I could have spent watching TV or doing something else I was spending online and there wasn't much else for me to do online back then except for fandom.
