I watched the first episode a while ago. That one, at least wasn't awful.

What is this?

(Anonymous) 2018-03-04 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not a movie, it's an old anime (which I didn't realize as a kid, I thought it was just a "normal" cartoon... but they open their books the opposite way) based on the popular children's book (especially in German speaking countries) "Heidi" by Johanna Spyri.

I get you, OP! Even child me thought that Clara was totally in love with Heidi.

Huh, thanks. I'd like to see it.

I thought it looked like Heidi, but she doesn't have the braids!

Fun fact, most old "cartoons" from the 60s and 70s were anime or Japanese-European coproductions.

I actually had a huge surge of nostalgia and watched the whole thing very recently (as well as listened to the audio book of the novel) and even in direct comparison to the book(s), it's actually pretty good.

It's funny because I never really watched it a lot when I was a kid. But I found it very enjoyable now as an adult.
(I also totally low-key ship it.)

This looks adorable, but aren't Heidi and Clara supposed to be close to the same age? Why does Clara look like a preteen and Heidi looks five?

(Anonymous) 2018-03-04 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I got the impression that in the books, Clara is a few years older than Heidi, who is five when the novel begins and I think 8 when she goes to stay with Clara as a companion.

I'm pretty sure Clara was older in the live action TV series, too.

Heidi is 8 and Klara is 12 when they first meet.

The size of those heads though...Is this just a bad screenshot or does the whole series look like bobbleheads?

The character on the right is fine, it looks like it's just the character on the left who has a massive noggin

HEIDI! Oh man, same-- though I grew up with a different animated adaptation?? Now I kind of want to track down the series. (But I did absolutely ship it watching 'Heidi's Song')
