Oscars thread

Anybody watching? Who are your faves? Who do you like to win?

I have only seen one Best Picture nominee and that is Get Out.

Just looked up the "Best animated" list and it must've been a poor year with Boss Baby and fuckin' Ferdinan nominated.

Coco is going to get it because lol, animated oscars are always a disappointment. I'm still hoping for one of the non-Disney/Dreamworks ones.

I mean, fundamentally, the Academy is just not set up to actually have a meaningful Best Animated Feature award. They're not apable of doing it.

I don't know anything about Coco apart from the obvious fact that it looks like a more little kid-oriented version of Corpse Bride w/some Latin feel to it. I was really irritated w/Ferdinand because I loved the book when I was a kid and they threw in this stuff in the movie that isn't in the book at all so I hope it doesn't win.

It was such a cute story about a bull who likes to smell flowers! But the trailer looked like...not that.

Coco is about family and ugly crying in the theater.

I don't have kids, I'm not close to my family and I've been called a bitch for not crying at movies. I think I'll pass.

People call you a bitch for not crying at movies? That's pretty freaking harsh. I tend to cry during emotional bits (and Coco made me miss my grandma, so I was like a freaking fountain while watching it), but my sisters never cry during movies or TV shows or anything. It doesn't make them bitches. They're just not as emotional as me.

I agree, it is harsh. I can be very moved by certain scenes in movies and TV, I just don't cry. My mom cries at Pepsi commercials and Laverne and Shirley. No exaggeration.

I'm rooting for The Breadwinner but it's probably gonna lose. Cartoon Saloon make gorgeous movies that will never beat Disney/Pixar, man.

I really really want Sally Hawkins to win best actress for Shape of Water.

go Lady Bird, go Get Out

I'm definitely not watching it though, the actual Oscar telecast is always crazy boring

Watching it now, if only to see if it's going to endin a clusterfuck like last year.

I've been a fan of Sam Rockwell for a while so I was stoked he won. I can never watch the whole thing, so I'm flipping back and forth to the Anna May Wong movie block on TCM.

Not watching. The only movie nominated for best picture that I thought was good (of the four I saw) was Get Out. Well, okay, Shape of Water was decent. But not amazing. But I'd also be okay with Call Me By Your Name winning even though I didn't see it because I've heard good things, and with the cultural atmosphere right now, a LGTBQ movie winning would be a good thing.
