the movie was intense, I never read the book.

The movie was pretty great IMO, a rare case of a book translating well to film. Really faithful and, yeah, intense.

It really was. It's never an easy thing to adapt a book to film, but a book written in first-person must be even tougher, and it nailed so many little subtle details. Brilliant performances all round, too. I never would have picked Ezra Miller to play Kevin but he was genuinely unnerving in the role, IMO.
