Re: Advice? Applying for a job with no resume

I haven't worked since college because I got married and I've been a housewife ever since. Volunteering is an option, though I'm not sure what area would be helpful professionally.

ayrt - Ok - asking because it would be different if, for example, you had a history of jumping from job-to-job instead. If you're not sure what volunteer work would be most helpful, compiling the skills and experience that employers are looking for in the job listings you're interested in can be a useful guide in winnowing down volunteer options. If there's a lack of applicable job listings, doing a general search for what employers want in the type of job you want at least gives some information. But in general, having something to build on is better than nothing.

(VolunteerMatch (volunteermatch.org) may have some options for virtual volunteer work and, if you're in the US, on-location volunteering.)

Finally, something to consider is that some managers - though not all - do look at aptitude as much as experience. It's not always about what you've done, but how well they see you growing into a role.

List everything that you can by redefining all of your housekeeping skills.
( Yes, they are skills, even if you don’t define them as such. )
Eg: being good with children could be parlayed into a child care job, for instance. Like doing dishes? Work at a restaurant. House clean to work out stress? That could become the foundation of a janitorial career. Like showing off your home? Maybe get licensed as a realtor.
