I think it depends on the season. Andy's character did a complete change, IMHO - he absolutely was a macho prick in the first two seasons. But slowly he went from being a macho prick to a pretty decent guy who just wasn't very smart. A lot like Joey from FRIENDS, actually.

I prefer what they did with Boyle on B99 - they didn't dumb him
