There have been quite a few debates on gender issues vs. racial issues and when they overlap, which is more important (things like criticizing treatment of women in other cultures or sexist actions of black men). There was also a lot of passionate debate about Bernie vs. Hillary that remained surprisingly even keeled. People who believed that Hillary was part of the system vs. people who thought Bernie was racist and sexist. Clearly very strongly thought that this was a life or death primary for this country. Yet the discussions were reasonable.

A few. Not many. Went to a super liberal law school in a fairly liberal state.

All I can say is that they're not existential disputes in the same sense

But I really don't have an overarching theory of what constitutes an existential dispute so I know that's not especially satisfying
