Shipping Q

Do you generally consider the ships you're into True Love (or something close to it, or whatever that means to you)? Or no?

Maybe one or two, but not all of them.

Pretty much universally, yeah. I basically don't ship characters unless I think they're a good fit and improve each other's lives and all the rest of that.

This is my answer as well.

Depends on the particular relationship. For my two OTPs, one is true love and the other is not at all true love (seduction with a goal, gaslighting, ends very badly).

Yes.

True love in the sense that I think they are good for each other and honestly respect each other? Most of them. True love in the sense that I think they should get married and stay together forever? Very few. True love in the sense that I can't possibly see them with anyone else? Basically none.

It depends on the ship.

Most of the time I'd say yes, I generally defer to happy ships that I feel bring out the best in each other and would be a 'true' kind of love if you will.

But sometimes I ship something that's a complete dumpster-fire that isn't meant to be, and would never be, true love of any kind.

What's the fun in that?

If I’m interested in a dynamic, but I don’t root for the characters to find happiness together, I don’t think of it as shipping. For instance, the villain of Erased is a serial child murderer who’s heavily implied to be a pedophile, and the hero is the first child to outwit him. I find it interesting how they became such important figures in each other’s lives, but it’s a very different feeling from shippy feelings.

Same. I can like the dynamics of a ship, but if I don't actually want to see them get a happily ever after, then it's not really "shipping" to me. "Shipping" implies that I like the pairing enough to want them to end up together.

Often, yeah. I'm a sappy romantic at heart and I'm all about the soulmates and true love schmaltz (like Thorki, Stucky, Kirk/Spock, Merthur, etc.).

But there's a few pairings I ship where it's less True Love and more just.... people I think would work great together in a relationship (Shakarian, Cullrian, Altair/Malik, Spideypool, etc.) But for those pairings I still love the ott OTP stuff, too.

Only certain ones: Edgewright, Driftrod, Garnet (why wouldn't I also list the 'living embodiment of a ship')

Most of mine are not quite "true love" but "a sweet love that took time and work".

Depends on the ship and how the author portrays it (and if it's canon, really).

I only ship pairings that I think are like that or have that potential. I don't have any casual/smut only pairings.
