What are you even on about? The very point is that abuse might be a reason but not an excuse to be an asshole/evil and not being abused doesn't mean you can't turn into an asshole/evil. Where is anyone "pitting abused characters against each other and choosing "good" and "bad" survivors"?

The Finn vs Kylo upbringing from your comment. Kylo been so warped by Snoke that he thinks he's doing the right thing (obviously he's wrong). And we're two-thirds through this story, so things are still in flux.
