Okay, yes, co-sign, but Joan Osborne ultimately makes it work, I think! And the rest of that album (Relish) is so raw and bluesy and amazing, if you've never heard it. Like, this opener (https://youtu.be/q3gw2K4PSh0)! I got this CD in 1996 and I'm still obsessed!

Yeah, it's a song that does much better in context. Even so, it seems like one of those tracks that the producer decided was going to be the "catchy hit single."

I came here to say exactly this. "One of Us" is a terrible representation of the rest of the album, which is brilliant overall.

Yes!!! I loved this album as a kid and I never see anyone talk about it.
I think I could probably sing along to the whole thing, even 20 years later.
