Yeah I liked him more in BP than in anything else I've seen him in. (He does similar quirks and body language whatever he's playing--cf. Watson and Bilbo) but at least in BP they work.)

I think it's because he's usually so painfully typecast as "British everyman" characters that he never really was able to show much of a range or variety in acting. Only so many ways you can play the same type of "curmudgeonly grump who's in over his head" role.
