Sure, sure. But that doesn't mean - and I accept that not everyone is going to agree with me here - but in my personal opinion, the so-called "purity culture" critique isn't wrong in every single case. It's an evolving and complicated negotiation, working out how best to make sense of all these things, and in my mind, there are points on which it's probably a good idea to be more careful.

I don't think that's the same thing as being anti-kink at all, though.

When it comes to women exploring their fantasies, I see nothing to negotiate.

Again, it depends on the specific thing that we're talking about. If we're talking about something that's exclusively play/fantasizing, and marked as such, I probably agree that it's fine.

But OP's argument* isn't limited to things that are fantasies. OP's argument can, and has, been made in defense of literally any kind of kink or any kind of sexual behavior that's historically been marginalized. So I refuse to agree with the moral part of OP's argument in general, or across the board.

*or at least the moral component of OP's argument: it seems like OP is making both a factual argument (that the rise of purity culture in fandom is because kink is getting decoupled from same-sex relationship) and also a moral argument (that it's basically a bad thing that purity culture is criticizing kink)

If we're talking about something that's exclusively play/fantasizing

....so basically all fic.

Probably all fanart, too, I'd say.

Yup. All of it.

I think you're reading too much into it so that you have an excuse to wag your finger at someone.
