One of my best friends is a guy, and I'm worried our friendship will suffer if one of us dates again. Not that it would end, but if he gets a girlfriend, will she be happy if we get drinks after work??

I know it's dumb.

The only times I haven't been dropped completely by male friends after they get a girlfriend is when they've needed someone to complain about their girlfriend to.

One tried to explain that they felt wrong talking to other girls while they were seeing someone, despite the fact that we had been completely platonic friends for a fucking decade. Another one still saw a mutual friend, but only because "she wouldn't be a problem, "because..." which I understand means that she is not attractive by his standards. Nice.

It is not dumb to be worried or hurt that someone might value an important friendship less than you do. I hope he's better than that.

No, she won't, and he'll have to choose. This is why male-female friendships between straight people don't work. Sorry about it, but human nature is a thing.

That's not human nature. That's one possible woman possibly being jealous.

That's very possible, unfortunately. A lot depends on how solid his judgment is when it comes to women. If he dates someone who's insecure and jealous... well, you can probably count on the friendship suffering. You can help things along by trying to include her, though.

Sure does suck but that's exactly what happened to me and one of my closest old friends. I got a boyfriend and me and friend were hanging out less often but still pretty regularly, and then he got a girlfriend and it basically stopped. I hope for better for you.
