I just started watching the TV series, and can't believe that so many people say they prefer Harry Shum, Jr over Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane.

Right? And to me it's not just about looks (though I do find Godfrey more attractive), it's also about presence and this... 'air' that Godfrey has as Magnus, that he's really been around forever.

Exactly. He's more feline, and confident, and moves quite differently than Shum. (Perhaps Gao's background as a model?) The brief scene he has in the hospital, he just... SOLD it. Somehow, for it, it was much more of what I want to see in a 400-year old half demon. Shum just seems like a kid who's discovered that it freaks his parents out when he wears eyeliner.

Granted, I have only watched the first 4 eps of season 1, and so it's possible that Shum gets better. At least I can be happy that he's not worse than certain other cast members (who at this point I desperately hope will improve, because I cringe).

Just came here to show my Godfrey Gao love. Were you in that thread regarding Shum's facial hair? Because some other anon put me on to the glory that is Gao <3

Yes, same here. I knew there was a movie, but it was just yesterday that I looked up clips of Gao as Bane and god-DAMN he is fine.
