That's funny, I think you may be hanging out in the wrong areas of fandom! Because never once have I had anyone "shove something in my face" in a way I can't tune or or ignore. Are these your friends doing it, or can you just stay away from the parts of fandom that keep bringing her up? If they are your friends, just saying "you know, guys, I really, really don't like her" might do the trick.

Bottom line is, just because you don't like her doesn't mean that everyone who does like her shouldn't dare to, or something, and that they deserve to have something they like taken away. If they're being obnoxious about it, I'm sorry, but it shouldn't be impossible to avoid or ignore.

... aaand that was "tune out," up there. FAIL.

Not OP, but I got the sense she was talking way more about gaming than fandom in general. I agree that most of fandom (especially on LJ) is likely female. But the internet in general, especially gaming, can be very hostile and it's frustrating. :/

Ouch. D: That really, really does suck. I hate that some sections are really that alien and hostile. Why should it matter if we're girls? I'm not about to call myself a gamer, because I play some when I find something fun/interesting or when I'm at parties or with friends, so I don't really know much. But it must frustrating when you are really into something and get treated like crap because it's not stereotypical to your gender.

Yeah, I feel the same. I'm not a huge gamer either, but I've never felt welcome in many sections of the internet if they know my gender. Gender stereotypes/discrimination are one of the main things I hate about society (and they're not just bad for women). :/
