Seriously, come play with me on my LJ, or email me.

I wish more authors would try to make it work in the timeskip before Apollo Justice (I hope you like Apollo Justice! :D ), because a lot of these fics were started before it was announced that Phoenix was a snarky jerkass poker-playing hobo, and I'd love to see how it could work then. Phoenix has a personality there which can't be self-inserted.

i dunno, it's such a pain to post anonymously but i'll consider it.

i loved apollo justice. i think part of why a lot of the fandom hated it so much was that they couldn't insert into phoenix as easily anymore, and thus a lot of their wank fantasies (and fantasies about how they were brave and noble just like phoenix) were ruined.

Or, palastinalied@gmail.com

Apollo Justice was my favorite game in the series, and I do agree with you in it mostly being rejected because of what it did to Phoenix, though not because it's almost impossible to self-insert as him these days.

He seems very different from how he was in the first and second games, so I can understand why people call Naruhobo OOC. I disagree with that assessment, though. Phoenix was rather questionable at times during GS3 (using waitress!Maya to get the old man to talk, lying to Tigre about the bottle, forcing Maya to testify against Godot even though she was in no fit state...), and I'm quite shocked people don't take that into account when they think of Naruhobo.

i'm worried you might out me though once you knew my email address, though...

personally i thought phoenix's change felt very natural, and was a ballsy move on capcom's part that i really appreciated. letting one era die and move to a next one can be tricky, but i like that they're doing it. they could have just stayed with phoenix and the cast forever, but they know enough to know that some things are better with a defined end.
i find that most people in the fandom have no understanding of the characters outside of making them one-dimensional cardboard cutouts.
