(SPOILERS for The Ritual)

It really was. I didn't get my hopes up because a lot of monster reveals end up being disappointing/never quite as scary as what you imagined, but that thing was nightmarish. Really nice to see an original monster design.

The first major scare with the deer in the trees (in BROAD DAYLIGHT) haunted me for days. And the whole sequence in the cabin with the Wicker Man-esque effigy thing in the room upstairs. Jesus. Great acting all round, too. Rafe Spall is always good.

Oh yeah! All of the cabin scene was great. I loved the lead's character dreams being a mash of the store scene and the woods.

The store scene was a bit of a shock for me. I felt really bad for his character and the way you can feel how some of the group blame him for it. Like we'd all like to think we'd be the big hero in that scenario and save the day, but when it's actually happening to you it's too easy to freeze up or go into shock. I thought his reaction was realistic. :(
