Yep and yep.

It's a shame because the movie was great buuuuuuuut yeah.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
The movie was enjoyable but the only character that had any real depth, or hint of being or ever having been anything more than exactly as flat as they appeared to be, was Buddy. Which is ironic for spoiler-y reasons.

I just don't know what I'd have to write about any of them.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
There's plenty of sexual tension to explore between basically any two characters in the movie, I would say

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but it would be copy and paste names into any generic PWP smutfic. It all works, but it doesn't speak to character depth.

I can't find anything to really write about these specific characters that would develop them as characters without making it all up, because there's so little to build off of.

It's a fun, brainless movie with good music, but not a fic/fandom one for me.

SA

For another example, I love the John Wick series, but writing him a fic? There's nothing there without making it all up. The movie is atmosphere and plot and not about character at all.

I do think that there are ways to write sexual relationships that are specific to those characters and more than find-and-replace smutfic. Especially threesomes. It would be almost an ideal fandom for threesomes.

I see your point in general, though.

well the movie was vapid and awful, so

That's why the internet loved it.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call it vapid but sure, it's not deep, it's a straightforward genre heist/crime movie

It's not awful though

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, it wasn't intellectual by any stretch. It was a heist flick. But it was amazing to me. The music fit every scene perfectly and the action was all well done.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was loads of fun and the driving scenes were really enjoyable. I wish I had seen it more than once.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I saw it in theatre and it was just so much fun to watch.
ailurophile6: (omg wtf)

ITA I cannot understand the love for it, personally.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really kinetic and stylish and it's in a genre that some people really like

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2018-03-31 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
God forbid a movie just be made for the sake of fun, mindless entertainment.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
NO! EVERYTHING MUST BE CEREBRAL OR IT IS NOTHING! NOTHING, I SAY!

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH the movie looked interesting, but after the Spacey shit I couldn't bring myself to watch it, much less join the fandom.

(Anonymous) 2018-03-31 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL @ your obligatory virtue signalling

Movie fandoms never last more than a few months.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Except for fucking Inception that will never fucking die.

(but I think it's reasonable for someone cranky about their fandom dying young to be mad at Spacey for helping kill it)

LOL @ your obligatory virtue signalling

Oh come on, are you for real here

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
how the hell is that virtue signaling?
