and they seem like a normal, non-drama stirring person. And then they reblog a photo of Aileen Wuornos with the caption: I stand with her. And you find out they are an insane person.

I'm iffy on this one, is she the hooker that killer all those rapists? Or the chick who cut off her husbands dingdong? Somthing like that? I vaguely recognise the name, and I think it was linked to the "Feminist Icon / Psychopath" debate the popped up around the time of Gone Girls popularity.

She was the first one. Though her claims of attempted rape are dubious at best, and she refused to appeal her death sentence saying if she got out, she'd just kill more people because she was so angry she couldn't really function and just wanted to destroy everyone.

Hm... I like to think I have a healthy scepticism about claims people tell me I have an obligation to believe even if there is no proof...

But:

The fact that she didn't appeal the decision does speak more to the idea she may have been telling the truth, IMO. Not saying I have any solid belief one way or the other - I never followed this story at the time, I just caught the debates about it some years later - but based on the fact that she was willing to accept the harshest punishment available, it seems unlikely that she was lying about her motives in an attempt to avoid the harshest punishment available. Like if she was willing to die anyway, why would she need to lie?

Probably for the same reason a lot of people, when caught doing incredibly shitty things, insist they're the victim and were only killing in self defense or that they never meant to hurt the kid they were keeping locked in a closet and torturing and so on and so forth, then eventually drop the facade and and admit that yes, they were hurting people and just accept their punishment.

And the fact that she said she would just go back to killing people if she ever got out is kind of the tip off here. And if she was telling the truth, why did she refuse the appeal on the grounds that she was too dangerous to live?

But from the sound of it, she didn't turn around on her story. She didn't drop any facade, it sounds like she was still claiming to have been attacked even while admitting that she believes she deserves to die. Like, if she was telling the truth, the fact that she knew she had been left as a violent angry dangerous person does not rule out the possibility that she was attacked. If anything, it kind of speaks to the fact that she might have been telling the truth. Getting raped does leave people angry. Killing people is something that, once you've done it for a good reason, you find it's easier to do with less good reasons.

Her saying "I'm too angry and hate filled to function, I shouldn't live" does not contradict her saying "I was raped so I killed these men"

Uhhh, no she did. "I killed those men," she wrote, "robbed them as cold as ice. And I'd do it again, too. There's no chance in keeping me alive or anything, because I'd kill again."

The first one may have been in self defense. The rest were murders for their property. She would take the stuff she robbed back to her GF.

She isn't the first serial killer to wanted the death penalty or felt remorse for what they did.

Now I have all kinds of questions. How does this person stand with her since she was executed in 2002? Does this person advocate killing and robbing johns? I know she said that all seven men she killed were killed in self-defense after they raped her or attempted to rape her, but the six bodies that were found had been shot multiple times.

One of the men was a Christian outreach guy with NO history of picking up prostitutes who picked up both Wuornos and her GF. They never even found his body to see how they killed him.

I mean, You know me, I'm not trying to virtue signal here, I'm not exactly on the feminist rhetoric bandwagon in any regard, particularly in the topic of rape... but this does not speak to her guilt. Christians do wonky shit all the time, and not being caught in the past is no indication that he was innocent. We also shouldn't presume his guilt either, of course, just pointing it out.

Generally men with no history of rape, but with a history of trying to help disadvantaged people don't pick up TWO hitch hikers at once if they are in the mood to rape. On account of it being two against one. And Wuornos wasn't a tiny woman.

And considering she shot several of the men in the back, it doesn't seem like she was fighting off an attacker.

In the back is a telling fact, certainly disproves any self defence claim, but doesn't rule out the motive being "You just raped me, now you'r walking away and I have a gun."

And let's be honest: "Never being a caught or accused of rape before this time" is not the same as "no history of rape".

I'm not saying its true, just that you cant rule it out.

I dunno bruv, If I had a gun and someone raped me, I'd probably put a few more bullets in them than is necessary. I mean, shooting a person multiple times speaks to hate, panic, or an unbalanced mind. All things she could have had naturally, but also all things that would come from being raped, so I don't think the means of death speaks to her claim being true or false.

Six (or seven) times? Every time? She shot one guy nine times. And the didn't all rape her, by her own words - on March 31, 1992, Wuornos pleaded no contest to the murders of Humphreys, Burress, and Spears, saying she wanted to "get right with God". In her statement to the court, she said, in part: "I wanted to confess to you that Richard Mallory did violently rape me as I've told you; but these others did not. [They] only began to start to."

I know sex work is no picnic and there is a lot of sexual assault and I do believe that probably the first one did rape her, but I think she got a taste for killing after that. All of the killings happened in the span of a year. Is it possible that, with her mental issues, which she did have, that she believed that she was in danger every single time? I suppose. I think it's more likely that with her predisposition for violence, her borderline personality disorder, and the rape and initial killing, she did it because she wanted to, because it gave her control. Maybe she felt justified.

I dunno, your hypothesis is possible, I just wasn't seeing anything that disproves her claim. At least untill the "They didn't rape me, but they started to"... I mean, then how did they get shot in the back? Like that point doesn't fit. Unless someone else shot them, which is pure unfounded hypothesis*, there does seem to be a gap there. I like to imagine I'm pretty imaginitiave, but I don't know how I would rape somone while facing away from them.

I've never had that specifically happen to me, but I've definitely had the experience where someone was outwardly fine, but then all of a sudden they were posting some next-level trash. Like beyond just "oh, I disagree," but like something genuinely terrible.

I was following on tumblr someone who seemed OK who started posting a lot of stuff about the Columbine shooting. As in they seemed to be fangirling Harris and Klebold, years after the fact. It was... weird.

You're lucky cause when that happened to me it was cause someone reblogged a necrophilia porn comic and I have to live with having seen that :/

Bonus points it was someone I knew irl and had to look them in the eye after that
