Eh. What are they supposed to do, wait 19 years so the characters look older naturally?

not OP

Less old fashioned clothes would have helped. It's supposed to be 19 years into the future, not 50 years into the past.

Everyone should be wearing metallic jumpsuits with shoulder pads.

No, the 80s are still too far back.

That made me laugh.

Ehhhhh.

Everything about the wizarding world is oldfashioned and behind the teams. To me, it would feel weird if they were more fashionable.

Movie!Hermione isn't, though, so it's looking really weird on her.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You talk as though they only had two options:

1) wait nearly two decades to film the prologue
2) dress your characters like frumpy senior citizens

I mean... do you really think they had no other choice? Like... better character design and wardrobe were totally out of the question?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-02 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, they could've found older actors who looked like the younger ones. It happened for A League of Their Own.

I might be remembering wrong but won't wizards age slightly slower than humans because of a longer lifespan?

I feel like they could've got away with not trying to make those actors look so obviously older. But I guess you could argue ageing in the films is so messed up anyway considering everyone who is supposed to be something like 30-35 at most is played by very much middle aged actors.

I can't see Harry, Ron, Hermione, or Ginny caring much about not looking frumpy.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Ginny'd care.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
This. None of them really gave a shit about fashion.

Plus looking frumpy means people pretty much ignore you, so it's a good way to not attract much attention while bumbling into your secret magic train platform.
osidiano: Allison Argent from Teen Wolf looking up thoughtfully (thoughtful)

Didn't Molly Weasley literally walk through the train station yelling about Platform 9 & 3/4 in The Sorcerer's Stone though? Like, she was so conspicuous even Harry noticed, and he's the most oblivious protag ever.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Duh, Daniel Radcliffe hasn't looked anywhere near good since he grew hair on his mini-wiz.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no, see, that is exactly what parents look like the morning they have to drop their kids off for school. You just know they were up half the night before last-minute packing and shit, and this train is leaving way too damn early in the morning.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-01 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, this was my thought too.

I like this secret for the "Harry Potter and the Cursed Haircut" bit.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-02 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
They should have just hired older actors, they look like kids playing dress up in grandpa’s trunk

Maybe that's the wizarding style at that point.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-02 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe frumpy Muggle clothes were in for 2017(?).

Alternatively, they could be those kind of parents that take delight in looking not great to see their kids off to school.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-02 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Parents are supposed to look like that. It's one of the many ways they intentionally embarrass their children.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-02 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm roughly the age they are supposed to be there (maybe even a bit older) and frankly I am appalled at how frumpy and traditionally middle-aged many of my old friends now look, so I can't say I'm surprised. I am one of the few clinging to the past
