Anyone here ever been to Disneyworld (Florida park)? How did you like it? I want to save up money to take my nephew (4/5) and sister to Disneyworld in a year. He loves Mickey Mouse and such. I've never been everyone tells me it is an amazing experience. Just wanted to get some personal accounts from people.

Also thought of taking him to DC but at 4/5 he won't get as much out of the museums as he would when he is older.

I went a few years ago with my brother's family and it was a good time. But my brother and his family go to Disneyworld once a year so they know all the tricks of how to get onto rides pretty quickly and where to part strollers and the like. I would suggest researching before going for what you really want to see/experience. Also, how easily does your nephew get scared or how much is he able to walk or wait in lines? Those kind of things should be taken into account. But it's definitely for families and there's a variety of things to do so you should be able to find things you enjoy. I will say I was very impressed with the logistics of the park. It's very well run.

Thanks! I think he is a pretty patient kid for his age. I don't think he is easily scared. Guess I should go make him visit someone in a costume to see how he reacts!

I think it's best to go when the kid is younger because my parents took me and my sister when we were 16 and 11, and it was boring as fuck to me.

Yeah, if we plan on going it will be when he is younger!

My boyfriend and I went for a weekend back in January and it was magical. Feel free to buy me for questions of course!

I went to Disney the first time at 4, then again at 8, 10, 11, 15, and 23.

I remember only a little bit from the first time I went and the trips from 8-11 sort of blend together but I definitely remember those trips.

It's really an amazing trip and your nephew will be lucky to go. Please ask more questions!

Of all the times we went, I think the best is to stay in Disney. It makes life so much easier.

How many days would you recommend we go to experience as much as possible (without being gone forever)? Did you always go around the same time every year? Where did you say in Disney? They have a ton of resorts and such.

I don't know how long my parents took us for when I was 4. We went in September then. We stayed at a rented condo outside Disney

When I was 8 we did an entire week for Easter and it was really crowded, but we also went to Sea World and did a bunch of things outside of Disney. We stayed at a timeshare Marriott resort in Orlando that my cousins let us use.

For 10 and 11, we spent 4 days. Once was in October and once in November. At 15, I did it in August and was only there a day. One of these times we stayed at Dixie Landings (now rebranded as Port Orleans) and one of them was the Beach Club. I LOVED THE BEACH CLUB. But it's so expensive and probably not worth it. The convenience is REALLY nice though because you're walking distance to Epcot.

When I was 23I went with my mom for a 4 day weekend in October. We stayed at the Coronado Springs and I like this hotel. It was basic and exactly what we wanted but it was super spread out and a far walk from the check in to our room.

My boyfriend and I did it in two days in January. And I wouldn't recommend that at all for someone with a child. We did stay at the Coronado again.

My recommendation is probably 4-5 days in October, early November, January or February and to avoid major holidays. Disney gets really crowded.

The nice thing about staying on Disney property is that they take care of everything picking you up from the airport and it's really organized.

If you're really serious about this, feel free to pepper with me a few more tricks I learned this time about booking restaurants. We only had two days in Disney, but you wouldn't know from the hundreds of pictures we got.

Since I am only like 30% sure I want to go, I'll hold off on asking questions for now! But thanks for answering the ones I have had so far.

One more thing, see if there's an amusement park near the house and take your nephew there for a whole day so you can gauge how he does with walking and rides all day. And how is he with Santa/Easter Bunny?

He's so lucky to have a thoughtful aunt like you!

There is an amusement part near here that I will have to see about taking him to. He was fine with Santa last year but we didn't really go near any Easter bunnies this year. :P
