[Korg from Thor: Ragnarok]

(Anonymous) 2018-04-03 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, he was one of the elements that didn't work for me. His commentary during the destruction of Asgard especially -- like, we couldn't even take a moment there? Everything has to be a joke?

I love Taika's work but this was the cherry on top of the over-hilaritied sundae that was Thor Ragnarok.

I love Korg & Ragnarok, but I do get where you're coming from. It was a bit much to be joking through the destruction of an entire planet.

I dind't dislike him but I didn't care much about him either. Some of his comments tickled me and that was about it tbh.

Yeah, I don’t think I ever found any of his lines amusing, and considering I laughed at the dialog or actions of pretty much every character in this movie at least once, he was kind of pointless.

He is the most Taika of all the characters in Thor, though. I mean he's pure Boy and Eagle vs Shark and Wilderpeople. Early Taika. Pure NZ dry hilarity. I think he was more for someone like mw who would appreciate the throwback Taika.

Yeah, I really liked him, but I agree that the destruction of Asgard should have stood alone.

I liked the character and the humor, but felt it was out of place.

I had no idea Korg was played by Taika and I loved the character when he first appeared. Thor was fish out of water on Sakaar and Korg represented the usual befriending lug who knows the scene. He was funnier than hell.

I didn't mind Korg, weirdly enough, but most of the other humor bugged me. I get that the movie needed humor, but it was at the expense of epic storytelling and a meaningful plot.

I liked hom, but something seemed off with matching the voice to the character's movements, like they didn't get the animation quite right, or Taika didn't quite nail it recording the dialogue.

I actually really liked Korg, though I didn't care for the general OTT comedy tone of Ragnarok. I think if Korg was the comic relief character while other stuff was taken more seriously, I would have liked him and the movie much more than I did. But as it was he ended up being my favorite of the new characters but he also felt totally superfluous bc he's yet another joke character in a movie that's nothing but jokes.

I think he is pretty funny - but I am a Kiwi, so a lot of Korg's comments seem NZ/Australian in-jokes, so.
