Bursitis?

[personal profile] philstar22 2018-04-04 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Anyone else had bursitis before? Anyone know anything I can do for the pain besides the naproxen I'm already taking and the Ice I've been putting on ever few hours? Hurts enough that it is making me nauseous, and I really need to sleep.

My mother might have it. I think that it just runs its course and disappears when it wants to?...

I went to my doctor today. He thinks it is not going to go away on its own. He prescribed a steroid, which I'll start tomorrow. But he wouldn't give me any painkillers other than naproxen.

Not had it, but after Googling all I can find for suggestions are anti-inflammatories and ice (both of which you're already doing) and "rest." :( Have you been given anything for the pain at least? It sounds miserable. Lots of hugs. <3

Nope. Doctor wouldn't give me any, just told me to take naproxen. Which is maybe taking the edge off.

Ouch. :( Did he say why? I'm guessing paracetamol or something similar doesn't do any good?

He's just not willing to prescribe narcotics unless absolutely, vitally necessary (he's only ever given them to me for migraines, and even then he rarely refills). And I've been taking tilenol as well as the naproxen. Not doing much good, no.

I was born with hip dyplasia that went undetected until I was a toddler, and even though I went through treatment and healed relatively well, I still have to deal with a slight limp and the occasional bursitis.

To be fair, I don't think it's ever been as bad for me as you are describing, so the doctor only told me to take a daily aspirin for a week to reduce the pain and the inflammation.

I have had it before, in the same hip. Not nearly as bad as this, though. That time naproxen along with a topical gel did work just fine.
