I'm not condemning the whole meme - just the ugly parts. But fair enough, I'll try to be clearer about that.

That said, it's not my job to keep shit off the meme. That responsibility lies with the mod, and with the cyberbullies who post it in the first place.

Well you called it "that dump," which is quite the blanket statement but whatever, you dislike it, fine. You also said "it's also a safe place for cyberbullies and shipwarriors."

It is not a safe place for cyberbullies (and I have no idea what you mean by shipwarriors). Personal attacks are against the rules and the mod does look out for them. Once in a while they are missed (yesterday someone found seven examples out of 28,000 comments, which I think makes us a damn nice comm overall) but since lolcoholic is bound to miss a few the only option may be to report it. It's not a perfect system but it's working fairly well at the moment. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an example of bullying that 1) the mod hasn't reacted to and 2) is on one of the recent posts.

I gritted my teeth, went into the first page of the current posting, and found three dogpiles before I quit scrolling down. If someone from outside Who fandom went there completely at random, do you think they'd think it was a place for fun and games, or for malicious gossip? The only "banned" stuff is the most blatant abuse. Face it: there may be plenty of lulz on the comm, but it's also being used as a toilet wall by some seriously ugly people. As long as that continues, expect the kind of negative responses from other fans that the OP was complaining about.

Because I'm not a shipper, really, and on this meme I've had the best discussions about relationships and characters. Once they could get over the idea that I wasn't one of the other shippers or a dreaded asexualist, that was. On the anon meme people seem far more willing to give up straw men.

I think this is because none of us have preconceived notions about what this poster or that poster thinks/believes as result of who they're friends with or what comms they belong to or unrelated opinions that we might disagree with, etc., etc., etc. We actually have to discuss things based on what people actually say not on all of these other ideas. That is why the best discussion happen on the anon meme, IMHO.

It really does sound very similar. Either the same person, or Kate is an avid reader and borrowing her arguments from a troolly mouse.
