This isn't attacking you darsynia it's just a comment, but, I personally don't think that I should be considered 'sensitive' to not want to read extreme violence or something... yeah there's a back button, but that just wasted my time. It's like how movies have genres. I wouldn't just keep going randomly to a movie, without seeing pictures, or titles or any previews or reviews or mentions, and then walk out if it doesn't suit me. Some guidance first would be good.

I'm on your side with this. I was subtly (too subtly, I guess?) implying that the idiot who wrote the secret hasn't ever had anything happen to them that would make them need to avoid certain issues. Usually people like that are selfish enough to assume that everyone should be like they are. Some people, on seeing the secret itself, might wish harm on the secret maker so that they could understand what it's like to have a trigger issue in the first place.

I'm not trying to say people HAVE to have experienced something traumatic to want to avoid non-con or rape or deathfic. I'm just saying that people like the secret-maker are trying to make it seem like EVERYONE who wants warnings on fic are just wusses who can't handle the difference between fact and fiction.

edit: It occurred to me that perhaps your statement of 'this isn't attacking' was meant to imply that you know I agree with you? In which case I'm just sorry to have reacted so vehemently, it's just I don't see anything in your comment that tells me you know I'm not agreeing with the secret maker...

I was more posting a 'me too!' kind of comment, hence my 'I'm not attacking you', just in case you thought i was... and then you did anyway. ah well. Maybe I should have written 'i agree! [my thoughts]' instead, but I didn't think it through very well apparently. Sorry.

An 'I agree' would have helped, yes. But hey, if I weren't the type to go re-reading all my comments obsessively after I've hit 'post' I'd have misunderstood you for longer than I did... so, it happened to both of us.

I'm not bitching about how many DW secrets there are. I'm bitching about the general fandom and how they are insanely wanky. I love reading my friends reaction posts and then they just turn into posts about how one companion is better than the other, The Doctor is an asshole, RTD needs to die, etc etc. Totally ruins it for me.

Oh, my response wasn't about the secrets, though in retrospect given the number of other complaints about it, that makes sense. It was mostly a 'don't be in so many Who communities/friended to so many Whovians' kind of thing, though it's not like I can check to see if that was the case.

I definitely agree with you on the expanded context, though. Nothing pisses me off more when episode recaps become bash-y, especially since I tend to have some Unpopular Fannish Opinions that I end up running across the opposites of. When the episode reaction comments end up shorter than the bitch about whether the show's creators should have shown the afterbirth for realism in the alien baby's birth on a ship created by space vampires controlled by a hybrid alien created by the good guys in a failed experiment, I go, 'OKAY, that's enough! THANKS.'

Err whoops! I forgot they're both sci fi, hah. Yeah, I couldn't BELIEVE how many people bitched about the total lack of realism when it came to the birth scene. It was like... you guys seriously need a reality check...
