You may be interested in Ginger Snaps. In one of the films, a character tries to cure her lycanthropy with wolfsbane injections, and when she ends up committed the staff are really confused and disturbed that she's been injecting herself with straight up poison.

Weirdly, that was mentioned in Teen Wolf, but they didn't seem to treat it that way.

I think it was just too inconvenient for the show, but honestly, like most shows with a lot action and fights, probably every character should be dead or severely injured.

Me too, except I straight up hate it.

It won't just make you sick or itchy, it absolutely can kill you.

Stop making cutesy tumblr pictures with it woven in people's hair and describing characters adding it to their drinks to get high or whatever.

People take just about anything to get high, and aconitine can definitely do that. Also, it can kill you. It was used medically - and still is in Chinese traditional medicine - but it's been replaced by more modern medications because the therapeutic index (i.e. the difference between "effective" and "fatal") is so narrow.

I remembered this in the midst of writing a TW fic and have to go back and change some things up to fix it because it also drives me crazy. I just don't always remember it since the show doesn't treat it as such (despite directly saying it).

I don't even write werewolf fic, but hey, the more you know. Thanks, OP!

For a minute there, I thought you wrote th at you planted wolfsbane...

On the other hand,
1) I never really hear about the people taking wolfsbane (just using it)
2) I was writing a fic where the "cure" (however temporary it was ) didn't involve wolfsbane at all!

Thank you for the public service announcement. (I am not being sarcastic. I honestly did not know this.)

Me too, because me writing a werewolf AU someday could totally happen!!

(Anonymous) 2018-04-11 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, you know they call it wolfsbane because people used to use it to poison wolves, right?
