I'm pretty good about regulating who I follow and I'm still aware of drama.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't believe op, either. This place is barely active enough to generate much drama, never mind somehow beating out tumblr AND reddit.

Never skirted Sherlock or SPN fandom, then.

Really? Either you're young or you filter what you see really well.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's probably where you go and who you follow. On Reddit, for instance, there are better subs than others. I belong to one sub for a show I watched that is great - nice and supportive people, interesting conversations, and there isn't really even a sense of hierarchy or BNFs. But they're the exception. I follow one sub that is horrible, although it's not for fandom. But it's a constant wankstorm there.

Likewise, I think FS has streaks. There was a lot of nasty drama up until a year ago... I feel like some of those people still crop up, but most seem to have left, fortunately. (Unfortunately, I think we lost half our named members in the process.)

wasn't that when the place was crawling with suicide baiters? Like you couldn't even make a post in GC to talk about feeling bummed out without being told to kill yourself?

And people were targeting named users all the time and trying to get people banned?

I noticed that dropped dramatically and it was nice but so weird. I wonder if Case got some tool to finally permaban anons.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT: I don't remember the suicide baiters, but I remember all of the above, yes. So that was then.

Maybe he did find a way to permaban them. Also possible they just got bored. Bullies often move onto new targets.

DA

Yeah, and places change too? I mean r/arrow was the friendliest, most enthusiastic subreddit for nearly three seasons. And then Oliver and Felicity drove off into the sunset and it was like a the sub itself did a face-heel turn.

And yet kalandalee is the only one I actually miss.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
that seems implausible

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You could save the world with your superhuman ability to filter who you follow, and yet you selfishly deprive us of this gift.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Your block list must be about as long as mine.

And you've been in fandom how long, exactly?

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Suuuuure.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-14 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Please please please tell me where I can find a peaceful corner in Tumblr. I ty to be really careful who I follow, but there just doesn't seem to be wank-free blogs in ANY fandom. So much drama... *sigh*

I don't see much drama on there but I also heavily curate my dash, no one I follow posts drama or wank, and I never go into the main tags for anything(character/ship/canon/etc). Not worth it tbh.

This way I remain blissfully ignorant of all the troubles on there, but I won't act like tumblr doesn't have it's bad corners, I just stay the fuck away from them.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-15 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I'm also not in any megafandoms right now, which helps.

Doesn't seem likely, but

(Anonymous) 2018-04-15 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I guess that could be true if you are only in small fandoms. That don't have any controversy. And you never run into any trolls. And you have a very specific set of places you go and people you follow and people who follow you.

Either you haven't been in fandom for very long/avoid wank-filled fandoms entirely/got a lot of dumb luck, or I deeply admire the amount of energy it must have taken to avoid and/or block an entire sea of overly dramatic cock waffles on tumblr. That's energy I couldn't even begin to have, let alone expend.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-15 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you use them for, recipes and landscape photos? Because when I use Tumblr just for those, then yeah, drama-free. I only have to set one foot into the tag for one of my ships to see people being shitty.

(Anonymous) 2018-04-23 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Either you block/blacklist the hell out of everything, or you don't go into tags. Because I use my block button and blacklist very liberally, and I still see drama here and there.
